| | micro tools suggestion? Hi everyone, I bought a set of micro carving tools that turned out to be poor quality (very frustrating). Would appreciate suggestions for who makes the very best micro carving tools (I'm looking first for v gouge, chisel, u gouge, skew) either in set or individually.
Thanks! |

| | Re: micro tools suggestion? I have both Ashley Iles and Flexcut. I like them both alot. The Flexcut are lightweight and I don't expect them to hold up like the Ashley Iles. They're great quality and I think they'll be something that will last for generations.

| | Re: micro tools suggestion? For the "best" micro tools ...... I looked at the Henry Taylors at www.traditionalwoodworker.com
That set is the best I've come across, expensive, but I found them well worth the outlay. Still not the smallest, the dockyard set is that, but I don't find them much use, no strength. I'm still looking for the perfect micro's, myself.

| | Re: micro tools suggestion? bob, next time your at the dentist ask him to hold on to his broken probes and scraping tools,
they can be reshaped with a micro grinder to the tool you need,
who knows he might have a box if them on hand hes waiting to give up...

| | Re: micro tools suggestion? Thanks for that link Bob....I didn't realize that there were "new" tools on the market.... I have not seen those HT micro tools, nor the bent gouges.
"new" = new to me. |

| | Re: micro tools suggestion? Thomp.....been there , done that! Seriously, have been making small tools out of broken dental instruments for years, now make wood handles, but, I've never tried to make gouges or V tools yet. My tool making skills are not that great, but at least the tools I"ve made, they work. I get into some pretty tight spots with the carvings on my ships, so I need to be able to modify tools accordingly!

| | Re: micro tools suggestion? figured you might have but i found recently there made of some good steel.. even the handles if broken off beyond the thin tool tips,
made several chizzles less than 1mm noe what im going to use them on i dont know becuse when you get that small your fightinh the hair like fibers of the wood... they gotta be sharp or you wind up carving on a mop... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
