Thanks Jim |

I asked the same question on the Fishcarving group about a year ago and I got various answers. It does seem to go with the prices, better ones cost more and least that is what people told me. I ended up buying the Ram45 and think it is fantastic. Wife uses it on gourds all the time also and she thinks it is wonderful. They start with the WeCheer, then Ram, Foredom Micro Motor then up to NSK. Anywhere from $139.00 to about $800.00 I think my Ram45 was about $325.00 at the time I bought it. Would not hesitate to buy it again. Keep in mind everyone thinks the one they bought is the best one. LOL
I use it ALOT....

| | Re: Micro Motor I'd love to get a foredom or the like, but have had a dremel with a flex shaft for 20+ years and like it, they're fair priced and good for small projects.
EDIT
I should add too, the one I use is way too small for large wood removal projects, but works great for really small stuff, and it screams at 35000 rpm.

| | Re: Micro Motor I suggest you Google up Ram and Optima. They are both very good tools at reasonable prices. These things go all the way to $1000 or more but if you look around you can get a very serviceable unit for around $300. One thing I would recommend is to get one that goes to 45,000 rpms. It will cost a little more but you will be better satisfied than the 35,000 rpm one.
Hope this helps. |

| | Re: Micro Motor I am blown away by the Foredom 1050. It is just what the doctor ordered in my opinion. Easy to use, accurate, just a pleasure to use. Takes your detail to a whole new level. Of course, the secret of it is having the right burrs!

| | Re: Micro Motor Bob,
Thank you for posting that review..... I finally got the chance to try my friend's 1050 unit and it is marvelous. High torque with lots of power. I will definately be saving for one. It is pricey but Foredom has always been a good product. My friend really almost "hoggs" wood with his and it never slows down....a micro motor on steroids for sure. Gotta sell a couple more carvings to be able to afford one but I'm going to get one for sure. |

| | Re: Micro Motor Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the 1050 through my friend, who is a Foredom Rep. I was going to wait but since the claim against UPS settled for almost what the Foredom will cost me, I decided to go ahead and do it. Things are not getting any cheaper and the opportunity to get it at a slight discount may not be there forever. I mailed him the check today. Hope to have the unit in a couple of weeks. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
