Default Micro Carving Tools

For those of you who feel comfortable making your own carving tools, I saw a tutorial at www.thecarvingpath.com on making micro tools from music wire. Music wire is high carbon and makes excellent micro tools. Again, this technique is not just grinding a new shape on an old piece of steel, you would have to heat it up (propane torch works well), pound it flat, grind the shape you want, then heat treat it (propane torch and mama's oven). If you can make a knife out of a sawblade, this should not be a problem as you already have most of the skills needed. If you have questions on heat treating, I would be happy to answer them.

Thanks for the tip Cap't. I'm going to give that a try. It's the heat treatment that I might have a problem with. I may take you up on your offer of help if I screw it up. Thanks again...

Hey thanks for the info on using music wire. I have had a huge roll of piano wire and never knew what to do with it! I am very anxious to try this. Thanks!
