| | Re: Magnification and Light Thanks, Mike, I never even thought of that! 'Course the sun can't penetrate down to my carving dungeon in the basement so it isn't really a factor, but still goood to know!

| | Re: Magnification and Light I tried the magnifier with the light, what I noticed was that the light got too warm on my hands, trying to work underneath it! Also, the darn thing wouldn't stay put, I'd have it adjusted and the arm would slowly start falling down.
I got rid of it and bought a magnifier made by Daylight, it's just a 5" magnifier that clamps onto the side of my portable carving desk, the arm is like a goose neck lamp so it says put. I love it, I can swing it down when I need it, swing it out of the way when I don't, perfect for detail work! Callynne

| | Re: Magnification and Light Was your lighted magnifier flouresent or incandescent type? My flourescent doesn't seem to heat up at all. It does require constant adjustment of the arm tensioning screws, though. Well, not constant, but occasional. Once they are tightened the arms stay put and can be positioned wherever I want them.

| | Re: Magnification and Light YEAH!!! Are you seeing it??? That one shows my carving table with the lamp and the magnifier both in it, the magnifier came with a 'hood' over it, which I keep on when it's not in use...that's the white thing in the left hand corner. Now I'll try attaching the other two pictures! |

| | Re: Magnification and Light Opps, won't let me attach the one I already put over in the General Carving Section under the "I feel really stupid" thread....man, is that an appropriate title for how I feel this morning!!! Anyhow, it's a view of the Fairy without being magnified, if you want to check it out.
I sure am glad there were good instructions on how to do this...only thing is, I figure there are about fifteen tries of pictures floating around on here somewhere that could all of a sudden appear....WHO KNOWS WHERE!!! Callynne

| | Re: Magnification and Light Oh yeah, my original post is also who knows where, so in answer to your question Al, my light was an incandescent, that's why it got so hot. It really was very uncomfortable to work under. I also like the more 'open' view I get with this magnifier.
Nancy, as you can see my light and magnifier aren't attached, both are by Daylight, who does make one that's literally these two pieces attached. I probably would have bought it, if I'd seen it first, but I'm glad I didn't. I like how I can adjust the magnifier when it's up and to the left as high as I have it.
Okay, one quick check of the Message Board and I'm off of here. This little project only took TWO HOURS longer than I thought it would!! Callynne | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
