| | Re: Lynns utility knive for carving Lynn,
The Warner knife I bought looks identical to the black plastic one you have. I thought it was plastic until I opened it up, and I could see the inside was metal, and the outside was painted. But it does the job! |

| | Re: Lynns utility knive for carving I am pretty sure home depot has them in the tool department, I know they have the top one, with the scrollwork, I saw that one, don't remember it having taiwan on it tho? anyway their prices if I remember right ranged from about 1.85 to about 4 or 5 dollars. |

| | Re: Lynns utility knive for carving from what i can tell i have the 2nd one but its retractable the blade is held by a plastic holder which usualy fractures with heavy use in winter,,,, and i have had blades come after my fingers, through the top crack between the handles after breaking through under heavy usage
its made of dicast metal which most of such things are.

| | Re: Lynns utility knive for carving yipee! Got out on the town today, momma took me to harbor freight i found a 45* angle 3/8 corded drill variable speed reversible from chuck to tail its under 5 inches long.
had to have it,,
i only own 5 or 6 3/8 drills....
but while there found several other had to have things, $1.00 project scizzors,(for cutting sandpaper strips with) maybe we wont have the dressmaker scizzor fight again now....
standard dremel bits and fluffy sanding 3m abrasive buffs. better known to carvers as fuzz removers.. Heck guys i was in the candy store, on top of the world. just druling all over the place.
then the wife got a guy with a mop run me out to the counter and put a halt on it the fun...
She said i had reached my spending limit i used up my allowance and time to take me home...
With a tear in my eye and a frown on my face, i batted my eyelashes at her as we passed home depot, but she didn't go for it. as i replied in the whinniest voice i could muster up... "just one more thing from home depot.... "
No Sale!!!................
well I don't know if that made her mad. no i wasent put on the side of the road, but allowed to go to walmarts and she let me set in the truck while she ran in and got some lunchmeat, eggs and a new coffee pot.. Life's Necessity's you know..
so i guess the old trusty craft knife will wait till next trip....

| | Re: Lynns utility knive for carving Last week I did locate one of those fixed blade utility knives at Home Depot. Dave sent me one when I said I couldn't find the fixed type, and it is safely tucked away in my carving box, waiting for me to try one of those great caricature subjects that Lynn has so kindly posted. But they ARE still around in the hardware tool departments if you REALLY look!

| | Re: Lynns utility knive for carving I watch Lynn carve with "Old Reliable" at the Tulsa Carving show and have to admit, in the hands of a skilled carver, it was pure poetry.
However, I am not a convert to the utility knife, I still like "My Old Reliable" the Case pocket knife. Fits better and more comfortable.
I am not saying I will not convert over to the fix bladed utility knife, but it won't be any time soon. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
