Default Latest knife

For you knifemakers out there, here is my latest.

The blade is a Vintage German straight razor with a flat grind.

I used Birdseye maple for the handle, Dyed it Yellow with Aniline dye and finished the handle with six coats of Spar Urethane. It is actually brighter Yellow than what the picture shows.

The second knife was finished this afternoon.
The wood is Spalted Holly with a urethane finish.

Yep, that's a winner, Rick. Beautiful job on the handle....never thought of a yellow dye on birseye maple, but it sure came out nice.

Dave,
Does Mesquite get big enough to make anything out of?

Al,
I tried Blue dye, but it washed out the eyes.
The Yellow seems to bring them out.

I test my finishes on a scrap piece from the handle.

Mesquite trees get large, several feet across the stump...what do you want to make? Besides, the stuff is hard!!

Dave,
I didn't realize they grew that large.
I suppose a couple pieces 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 6" would be great.
Thanks

Gary,
Thanks, I hope you are recovering and feeling better.

Thanks Rick! I feel blessed, I had a Basil cell Carcanomia on my back that was very large. I now have a "L" shaped scar on my back about 8" across the top and 10" down my back( like an upsidedown "L". They got all the cancer and I will go back to work next week, so I feel blessed. One thing I know though is that skin cancer is nothing to mess around with, and like mine, they are caused by exposure to sun. So take care people!
