| | Larger knives Hello all,
New to the forum. Searched but did not see any posts on this one...
I have been prowling the Net looking for a carving knife with a blade length of about 3" but can not find any. I know that they are out there somewhere; I have seen books with photos of knives of this size being used.
Anywone have any leads?

| | Re: Larger knives Check with Rick Ferry..... Little Shavers Wood Carving Supply about a custom made knife. He made an excellent one for me from a straight razor. It's not one I use all the time, but when I need it, NOTHING else fills the bill.
Or for a commercially produced knife look at Lee Valley Tools - Woodworking Tools, Gardening Tools, Hardware for Frost knives, Sloyd style blades there are several with blade lengths from 2" to 4"
We have a couple old time "Finnish" carvers in our club who use these larger knives and do some excellent work with them.

| | Re: Larger knives I know Woodbutcher Jan, out of Canada makes a large knife, don't remember what he calls it. If you see his name on a list ask him. I think there are some dealers handling his knife also. Possible source might be thewoodcraftshop.com
If you can't find it let me know and I will send Jan a message.

| | Re: Larger knives Just saw one this weekend at the Wichita show in Gerald Sears booth. He had two very long blades. One with his distinctive handle and the other the typical Helvie oblong handle. They had to be very close to 3". You can do a search for his website and maybe find it. I looked last night for one they had at the show and didn't find it so if you don't see it you might send them an email as to told me to. Also Denny had a two different long blade knives. One of them you could butcher a long snake in one long cut.
Good luck.

It's not quite as long, but depending on what style of carving you do I'm a big fan of the Ron Wells 2-1/4" knife. Wells Knives at Little Shavers |
