| | Kolrosing knife Well after some input in another thread I posted, I started looking at doing some Kolrosing, wood engraving where coffee grounds are rubbed into the engraved wood to bring out the detail. I was going to buy a proper Kolrosing knife, but as I do with most everything else, I decided to make my own. I used a small trianglular file, gound it to the proper prifile and worked through several japanses water stones to bring out a polished edge. I have only done some small practice work with it but it does a fine job. The ones you can buy have a "calligraphy" pen styled handle, so that's the handle style I used. Hope you like.

| | Re: Kolrosing knife The bottom edge is the sharp one, but with such a steep angle it parts the wood rather than actually removing it as with chip carving.

| | Re: Kolrosing knife Gilly,
I have never tried that type of carving, is it cutting a line or scratching a line?
I have done scrimshaw which may be similar. |

I have done scrimshaw which may be similar. | From what I've read and tried, there is no wood removal at all, the wood is merely sliced/pushed aside, giving a groove for the coffee grounds to be rubbed into.
