Default Knife Question

Just found this knife. I think it belonged to my wifes grand-dad. It is a Frontier. The large blade is marked Imperial 4431. Does anyone have any info on this knife. Like is it worth trying to sharpen and use for carving?

Looks like an old Imperial "Stockman" pocket knife. I don't even know if Imperial is still around, but they were a medium priced "everyman's" knife back a ways.

I'd guess it would sharpen up nicely as a pocket carving knife. Lots of folks use the Stockman's style for that. Being as it was Gramp's knife, I'd leave the blade style as it is, though. Just learn to use that sheepsfoot blade as it is.

Thanks Al. Guess I will give it a try. Or maybe send it to Rick for the initial sharpening.

Bill,
That particular knife is not real valuable as a collectable, but should work well as a pocket knife.

oooh... a nice find. I like the older knives, even if they were not top of the line in their day because they are the old carbon steel which to me makes a great carvin' knife. Easy to sharpen and stay sharp!
