Default Knife with brass inlay, sort of

Ok here is the what it turned out to be, I filled down some brass rod gathered the fillings and mixed them with epoxy to fill in my initials and signature. It didn't turn out exactly like I wanted but it's not bad the knife is nice cuts very smooth I hollow ground the blade to about 15 degrees to make it thin and then ground a short 25 degree bevel onto it for strength I plan to use this knife in cotton wood bark.

The handle is soft maple burl that my older brother brought me for christmas last year, the burl was around 4 feet in diameter and this is made from a small 1 1/2" square of it. Finished with a beeswax dip over all I am happy with the way it turned out.

I have been looking around and found a place to order some silver wire so when I have the wire and do another knife I will inlay the silver in some sort of a scrolling pattern around the handle to see how it looks.

Nice work, Carl. Here's a link to Santa Fe Jewelers Supply. I've dealt with them several times both in person and through their catalog....decent folks to work with. But OUCH...last time I purchased silver it was 7 bucks an ounce...now it's up around $27.

Fine looking knives there Carl...

I like the idea of using the filings and epoxy to create a more lasting signature. I'm gonna try it myself.

I think I will just stick to using india ink and epoxy to fill in my signature and initials, until I get some silver wire. I did some more research around the web and have a pretty good idea on how I will do it.

I don't think there's a thing wrong with that inlay. You might want to try crushed turquoise mixed with epoxy. That's used a lot as inlay material on Native American flutes. Looks really good.
