Default JET 12" Bandsaw

Hello friends, I was seriously looking at the Grizzly 14" ultimate Bandsaw but having a hard time swallowing price. I even emailed them and asked if they would waive shipping charges I would buy it right then. Even though they have some models with free shipping, they would not budge. So my buddy pointed me to "Craigslist" website. I looked and found this;
JET 12" Open Stand Bandsaw 1/2 HP ***model# JWBS-120S
After looking around on net for this model, I realize they dont make them anymore in 12". Does anyone know if they had problems with this size? He wants 250, so I am offering 200 and being firm. I expect an answer today. any thoughts either way would be appreciated before I take the plunge.
Thanks, Tom.

I have the Jet 12 and love it. The only upgrade I did to it was add the ureathane wheels from Woodcraft. That alone made it a real good machine to use.

I have one as well. It's a great saw and all I did to it was put in some better blade guides. The only drawback I've found is not every place has the 82" blades that mine takes. They are available but I buy most of my blades online so I get a choice of the kind of teeth I want.

I am pretty sure that if you so desire, later on you can also get the "riser" for it. This will allow you to cut much thicker chunks of wood..it will also cause you to have to buy larger blades but the upgrade is worth it. The Delta riser for their similar sized bandsaw would probably fit if Jet doesn't have one...

Being 150 miles from Springfield Mo, I didn't pay the shipping but have not regreted the Grizzly Ultimate 14 . You have heard from those who have the jet but when priceing them the Jet was higher around here.

Best wishs on you getting the Jet but I think you will be happy with it. So much more you can do it a 14 inch than a smaller size one.

Blade length is not a problem for any saw! Get your blades at Suffolk Machinery Corp. - Timber Wolf Band Saw Blades and they make them any size you want and they are terrific blades..imho As for the Jet, I don't know, but I have a Jet variable speed lathe and I love it, a great tool! If you get it for 200.00....you will no doubt get your monies worth out of it!!

Thanks All, I really appreciate everyones thoughts. Kenny, that is one drawback on the Jet 12" it wont accept the 6" riser block like the Griz 14" will. I read it somewhere on the internet review of that saw. I thought that it would be capable of the riser. I really do need that option because I cut all my own lumber. 1st with chainsaw down to usable size but if I needed to go small, then my table saw will only cut 4" max. And its just around the corner from needing a motor I've used it so much. It would be so nice to carve some 12x12 blocks! I am in no hurry, I just may go ahead with the grizzly. I've heard nothing but great things about them.

Does the Jet 12 use a direct drive motor?
