| | Indoor carving station I was getting heck from my wife for all the mess I was making so I came up with a carving station that works great so far.
Was very easy to make using some 1 inch plastic pipe and some 5/8 wooden dowels and a few scraps of wood I had laying around. There is a tray that can be removed so that you can dump the shavings without lifting the whole station. Also used some cork on the tool tray on the right. Have a few more pictures of it on my site. http://picasaweb.google.com/love4woodcarving |

| | Re: Indoor carving station Good idea. With your bench area being made of dowel, it would be easy to attach tie-downs to hold a project steady when you need 2 hands. |

| | Re: Indoor carving station I like your station and I like your website. In the pic of your collection of hand tools, it looks like you have a box of Grizzly carving chisels. If I am right, what do you think of them? Any good? I'm looking for a low-price set until I get better at carving, then i'll upgrade.

| | Re: Indoor carving station thanks for all the great reviews .whitecree I put an edge around the dowels so I could use like a carvers benchhook and for bigger projects I figured on tying them down to dowels as you suggested. the whole thing seems to work great so far. The tools you see in the box were a gift given to me . they are from Canadian Tire I think they were around $100 Canadian they work good enough as mallet tools but you need to sharpen them as they come out of the box pretty dull. I really use mostly flexcut palm tools so far but I am very new so I am by far a good judge of tools yet. I also have some power tools but stick mostly to hand tools so far. I want to learn how to use the hand tools and learn how to sharpen properly before I move on to using my power tools too much. I love the way the tools feel going through the wood and cant get that feeling with the power tools. |
