Question Honing Belt 4 x 36

I'm considering purchase of a 4 x 36" table top belt sander for sharpening and honing.

Anyone know of sources for a leather honing belt 4 x 36"?

Any suggestions on making a 4 x 36" belt?
  • Any specific leather better than others?
  • How to splice the ends?
Thanks for any help!!!

That's a large chunk of leather. Splicing the ends isn't that difficult. All you do is give it a 2 or 3 inch overlap and thin the overlap on both ends from full thickness tapering to the end. You then put a heavy coating of contact cement, let it dry to the touch and then put the ends together and press them together or using a hammer tap it together to get it to fuse.

A good source of leather is Tandy leather or McPherson leather or even a local shoe repair shop could get you some from their finder.

Check with Home, they make 1x30 and 1x42 inch belts as well as some others. Maybe they could make what you need or might even carry it. Hope this helps.
