Default homemade knives

Someone asked me what kind of sabresaw(jigsaw) blades I used to make some knives...I just looked and have some bosch and the very small detail knife, which is really outstanding steel is a Porter Cable #12320, not sure that will help you, have a feeling they might sure the same number for different styles, but this blade is narrow from cutting edge to back and the teeth are offset, as a sabresaw blade it is outstanding, and its also outstanding as a knife blade....sorry I can't remember who asked?

That would have been me, I think, Dave!!

I've been toying with the idea of making my own, and even looked at blades the other day. There were so many to choose from, I thought I'd get more info!

The search turned up a lot of info, so I urge those looking to make their own knife to take the time to read what is already here.

I'm on my way out to look for some of these blades today. That's just what I need, one more thing to do!!! (Geez, I gotta get this Santa done! )

Thanks Dave! I'll let y'all know how it goes... when it goes, that is!

i might have to try and make some knives out of the broken blades from out woodmizer... they'll bee slightly thicker than a hobby bandsaw but i think it would still be cool since i dont have any tools for carving and haven't really did much other than some with cheap pocket knives and a dremel

I get alot of satisfaction carving with knives I've made. Those saw blades are great. I once made several Inuit Ulu knives out of some old circular saw blades, and smaller knives and engravers out of files.
