Does anyone know where to get a 360 degree ball joint holding device? I am talking about the bag heavy duty hydraulic one.I have found the smaller ones that are in all the catalogs(jerry rig,pro carver, the rock,etc.). I have been loking but just can not find it.I don`t even know what it is called.thanks Vince

Are you looking for the Panavise? It holds up to 100 lbs. If so, here's a link to the manufacturer's website. Google on Panavise, and you'll get the vendors who sell them.

How about using a 2 inch trailer ball and make your own? I made one, simple and maybe 20-25.00.

I have seen all the smaller ones in the catalogs.I`m looking for the hydraulic one.Hi Ho,thats not a bad idea.It would not be hydraulic but it would be heavy duty.I might try that out if I can`t find what I am looking for.

Dave, do you have any plans for making that vise, or a parts list?

I would take two plates and cut holes in them a little smaller than the ball then put the ball between them and bolt them down. Oh ya chamfer the edges of the plates to the ball.I would use three bolts.one with some kind of handle to tighten.Like the ones in the catalogs only heavy duty.
The short version.

Here's a link to the poor man's vise:

Here's the trailer ball vise:

I suggest you make a slot in the top flange so you can swivel the ball to an almost inverted postion. Comes in handy if you like to carve upside down!

Hi Vince, try here http://www.woodcarverssupply.com/STORE/ for the hydraulic holding device. Not sure this is the one, but worth a looky. I just bought the Rock Holding device of which I'm waiting for. I doubt I'll ever need to hold more than 45 pounds which it advertises. But hey, who knows. LOL
