Default Hmmm.....

I was on Ebay looking at carving knives when I came across these razor knives.

I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but they reference my website for information.

Please note, this is not a recommendation for these knives or this seller.

Rick,
I emailed him and asked what he was implying by using your website...is he saying his knives are like yours, does he have your permission to use your site? I also stated that materials in one man's hands turn out incredible tools while in another's turns out something completely unusable. What exactly is he implying by using your site as a reference?
Hope you don't mind. As you know I have a couple of your knives, love them and hate the thought of someone using your name and reputation to sell their knives, whether great or not. Hope I didn't meddle too much! Maybe people will springboard off his listing and buy the best through you!

Interesting problem Rick....... he really should have asked for your permission first to advertize it. Nice to get the free advertizing, but it does give a false impression. He is clear that his merely resembles your work, but by using your address in his write up, he is connecting you to him, without your permission.

Lot of wierd thing happen on E-bay, let the buyer beware!

Hmmmm, again. It looks good, but I question that shellac finish for a working handle. My experience with shellac is that it becomes sticky when handled if your hands are sweaty or even just damp. Maybe it's just my sweaty palms.

After reading this post, I got to wondering just how many seek permission before linking to another's site??

IMO, I thought the ebayer was up front with his link to Rick's site.

Rick:
I'd take it as a complement that someone is trying to use you as a source of quality, but just because it looks like a diamond don't mean it is a pure diamond. From what I see your quality can't be duplicated and as soon as you start taking orders again I want to be on the list to get one.

I don't know if you checked it out, but this vendor is selling other knives with the same advertisement--I think I counted 8 different knives under "View Seller's Other Items". Here the vendor is using Littleshavers.com as a reference, and a buyer not so savvy about carving knives wouldn't know whether this vendor's knives are good. So, the buyer just might assume the quality of the vendor's knives is the same as Little Shavers' work because of the reference and the knives appearing to be similar, and then take advantage of the price thinking he's getting a good deal.

What if the quality of a product isn't good, and the buyer gets hurt while using it?

Does a business incur a liability and/or the expense and inconvenience of defending himself against an unauthorized use of his business name in a buyer's lawsuit seeking compensation for injuries caused by a defective product? Not to mention the risk of damage to the business' reputation.

This is just wrong!

The say they are made from straight razors but when I look at the closeup the shank of the blade looks to me like round stock ? Probably just the picture..... I also notice they have what looks like a snap? on the face of the handle? Wonder what that's for?

Yup, theres a thin line there between okay or not, but he was upfront on it. Haven't we all directed people to other's sites for reference on one thing or another? BTW, at that price I bid on one, so if I win I will let you all know what it is like.
