Default high relief?

I am planing a carving out off a big slab of poplar ,at the end there will only be a frame, a figur and some tree branches left, is this called "high relief?
I appreciate it if somebody can clear this up for me.
Thanks so much,
Alice

Alice,
I am probably wrong, but I believe it is called Deep or pierced relief.
There are sure to be relief carvers who can give you a definitive answer.

Here's a dictionary definition of high or (alto) relief.

Sculptural relief in which the modeled forms project from the background by at least half their depth. Also called alto-relievo.

As opposed to low or (bass) relief

Sculptural relief that projects very little from the background. Also called bas-relief, basso-relievo
