This post was modified because a member thought it was an ad...I personally think that helvie putting their website up is a service to our members, especially the newbies that have no idea what sources are available for good knives...so I, not Rich at helvie am putting this up not as an ad, but as a service...http://www.helvieknives.com/
I am thinking that altho we do have to draw the line for ads and spam, we can also short ourselves in the source of information department? I know we have tried to keep down the number of threads, but maybe a thread of "Vendors"? Not a big speel about their products prices etc etc, but just a list of vendors and what kind of product they specialize in? Like Helvie-knives, Littleshavers-everything lol , heinecke-wood does this sound good to anyone? I try to keep a lot of things but unfortunately I tend to fill up my computer, would really appreciate a thread here with a list of vendors we carvers would /could use Dave

Thanks Dave
To all you carvers, I was not trying to push Helvie Knives on anyone, there has always been the question "where can we buy Helvie Knives" I thought the list of vendors was just some good information that carvers may use. Even when Ken Helvie and I were making these knives, carvers at the shows that we attended asked if we had vendors in their states or cities. The internet or catalogs is a great place to buy knives, but there is always the carvers that would like to have the opportunity to see or hold the knives. I am always open for ideas or questions on the types of knives we sell or what we recommend as a good way to resharpen them...power vs stropping? I will answer everything to the best of my knowledge. I did have the pleasure of finally getting into caricature woodcarving, I have always toyed around with carving but was never really serious about it...until now! I have been biten by the carving bug. I have taken a stroll through many of your guys and gals cavings on the internet and am amazed by them.
Thanks to all
Rich

Thanks Rich and Dave. I use Helvies. Personally, I like them.
I did not feel this was spam or and ad myself but have Helvies site bookmarked already. But I give thanks to Rich for putting it up and for Dave's insight.
Thank you both.

Thanks Dave. I stated carving with a Helvie, have 5 now, and like each one. I think knife loyalty has a lot to do with the brand you started with. I also enjoy having access to lists of suppliers. We get a lot of questions on this board about supplies, so I don't think of these posts as "ads". We've had a couple that were straight promos, but not enough to get concerned about. And, with diligent moderators such as yourself, we're on top of this situation anyway. Keep up the good work, and Helvie, keep making good knives. Mike

I am a begining carver and I love the three Helvie knives I have .. A dear couple .." Larry and Jeannie Piety had a very special knife made form the owner for me.. It was made to fit my hand and has lot's of the red color because they knew I liked color..lol I treasure it with all my heart and it is so comfortable to carve with and such a good sharp blade.. He went to a carving class and they took a tour of the owners shop where they are made, so I really treasure that knife and hope one day that I can do it justice.. Thanks Dave for the site.. I am looking forward to gettin a micro knife as soon as I can find out where to order it...Charlotte

I think the idea of a list of vendors is a great idea. The internet it nothing if not about information. I've owned 2 Helvie knives for years & think very highly of them. The rough out was the first good knife I bought. Could'nt believe how well it fit my hand. I may have to have one of the Gerald Sears knives.

dave,

personally i did not see anything wrong with helvies post or anyone else that is a contributer to the board it is these that post only once with something to sell i would like to see stay off the board. but maybe we do need a vendors thread where the beginners can find the tools and materials they need help in finding.

I think a vendor thread is an excellent idea. Maybe some are afraid of a little competition.
