| | Have you heard of this knife? Hi, I had a contact from a person asking the following question:
"I need a round blade I think it's called a scop? Not sure but its for rounding out stuff like if you were carving a mask or a shoe or something of this nature."
I have not heard of this type of knife before, I am sure some of you have, could you please help explain it to me and point me in the right direction to help my friend?

| | Re: Have you heard of this knife? Lee Valley has a scorp by beebe listed on their website if that is what you are asking about http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...332,44073&ap=1
Hook knives are also handy when hollowing something out say for example a ladle or spoon.

| | Re: Have you heard of this knife? I've got a Flexcut scorp and they have limited use. The gouge part is turned around and you draw it toward you--kind of an "L" shaped tool. Kinda cute, unique, and once in awhile, it's just the right tool for a task. A bit difficult to sharpen...

| | Re: Have you heard of this knife? If that's to be used for larger projects like chair seats and dough bowls, there is another tool called an "inshave". It's like a drawknife bent into a "U" shape. A bent or hook knife like those used on Northwest Native carvings has a longer handle that can be grasped with two hands for better leverage.

| | Re: Have you heard of this knife? Haida style hook knives have long handles. Pacific Northwest carvers like Bill Reid and Robert Davidson have developed them.
