| | Re: Got Gloves Or get it from Rick at LittleShavers......The fish filet gloves have too large of holes in the mess and the only thing you can get here is "large" they don't compare to the white glove with the stainless steel and kevlar. imho |

| | Re: Got Gloves I went to "double gloving" my holding hand after an accident with a skew chisel. The under-glove is a soft kevlar-type (take your pick) and the outer-glove is a leather work glove.
Since going to this system I have avoided getting even the tiniest nicks, not to mention any more inadvertent body piercings!

| | Re: Got Gloves I worked in a plant that made steel pipe. All of my inspectors had to wear kevlar and a lot of them wore a heavy leather glove over the kevlar. I have not tried this approach when handling a carving, though. Might be too bulky. Of course, if you whack off a few fingers, there would be plenty of room inside.....

| | Re: Got Gloves Blake...sorry to hear you got cut so bad. Did a number on my own hand in the same area as you in the Fall, and that's because I was away, and wasn't wearing my "Best Kevlar Glove" that Greg recommended. This glove is well worth the money. It's the best thing I've come across, but I recommend a tight-fitting glove if you buy one. Bonnie |

| | Re: Got Gloves its been a while Since i cut myself, other than little nicks,
i carve in little spurts and dont always grab my glove, So my turns ah' coming,
i have one of them food service stainless steel, coated in vinal weaved carving gloves it was about $18- at a kitchen -cafeteria supply store. looser weve than kevlar but it breathes, you couldnt get it soaked or even wet.. if you dipped it.
I have beefed up the areas where it would wear by sewing 5 layered pads of veltrap only on the place needed, sewed with dental floss, not around thumb & fingers, I carved with it over 2 years, no major damage but its a matter of time like i said. my turns ah' coming,
even though your wearing a glove as lynn says none are cutproof, but mine is as good as they get i think, the kevlar gloves get so wet inside it gets slick inside and eventually gets stinky,
the vinal coated stainless steel breathes and smells as fresh as the day i bought it. although it wont stop pokes and sticks or a slicing poke like a skid.... with a dull knife.
maybe your kevlar glove over one of these stainless steel/vinal gloves would double your protection, but i think it tough to handle small items? |

| | Re: Got Gloves Thanks again to all your suggestions! The biggest thing is that I am not going to let a cut discourage me from carving. It sounds as though most of you recommend either using the glove from woodcraft or the glove from walmart. I may end up using both as they have to be cheaper then another doctor bill.....at least I can laugh about it! Anyway, thanks again for all your suggestions and well wishes and I should be the owner of a new glove by the end of the weekend.
Thanks!

| | Re: Got Gloves Sorry to hear about your accident. I tried to wear a glove but it was too clumsy for me. I do cut myself now and again. I use a short blade knife and go really slow. I bought the glove that Walmart sells. It seems very nice but I did not try using it.
