| | Found some carving tools Hello, I found some old (or I think they are old) carving tools in a box of my dads stuff. They've been laying in our barn for over 10 years, and I know my dad probably picked them up from an auction many more years before that.
Where can I find information on them? They have some rust on them and I dont know if they can be cleaned up or not.
The top three say Weber USA, the fourth has Taylor #10 on it, the fifth and sixth say Herring Bro's , with one stamped London, England under the name, and a #8 on it, and one with just London stamped under the name. Theres more stamped on the tools but I just cannot make it out.
Are these old? Are they cleanable?
Here is a picture of them and what is on the tool is written to the right of them. |

| | Re: Found some carving tools Marci. How lucky is that? The Herring Brothers tools are usually 19C and if they have the sweep number stamped on them they are usually post 1870. Tools of this age usually clean up well and are a joy to use. I have Addis and Herring tools in more or less daily use, I love the feeling of being connected to past woodcarvers through their tools and hope some of their skills rub off on me.
All the best

| | Re: Found some carving tools All I got to say is you're going to love em when they are cleaned up. For some reason those old tools are better than anything you can get today. |

| | Re: Found some carving tools Arapsang, oh my, I didnt realize they'd be that old. My goodness. Just for History sake I should get some TLC on them. Thank you for helping me out with those Herring Bro's. I"m not sure on what Addis is?
What about the Weber ones? I tried searching but come up with Grilling Equipment. :S
There was two other tools with these, one was like a wooden handled xacto blade holder, and the blade is very tiny on the end. And the handle is short and squat. The wood and brass? on it seem to be well aged also. The other is a white handled prong? type tool with curved hooks on each end. Like to dig out fuzzies or something.
Thank you again for the help. |
