Default forstner bits

griffin.6@att.net how to sharpen forstner bit by hand?

Hi Griffin,
I didn't want your question to get lost in the other thread, so I moved it out into it's own thread! While I don't know how to sharpen a forstner bit by hand, I'm sure there is somebody on the board who does!

Please let me know if you are having trouble posting! I can walk you through it; it can be really confusing if you're not used to it!

if you look at the cutting edge, you can see the angle......I use a file (very small and fine file) and slowly file with the angle, doesn't take a lot(make the same number of strokes on each side).....if you have a decent edge and want to hone it, put some fine sandpaper on a popsicle stick and use that.....maintain your angle tho! the spurs on top, I just take a swipe or two at with the file....probably should use the sandpaper there to, but I haven't I use my forstner bits a lot.....mine are the el cheapo chinese versions, but they have been doing the job so far!
