Default Flex-cut Handles

I just bought a Flex-cut RG handle and a 1/2" spoon gouge--just to try out a Flex-cut tool.

Is it me or is the handle too slippery with the Gloss finish? I put satin poly on the red oak tool handles I make and even that's a little slick but it's tolerable, and usually it tacks up with hand oil, sweat, grit, etc. after a while. I'm about to scuff the handle up with some fine sandpaper and maybe refinish it with some satin poly.

Bob,
I've been using flex cut tools ever since they came out. I've found that some handles on the tools are finished more glossy than others. At any rate, I usually rough them up a bit.

well if you really get serious, go to the hardware store and buy some "Dip-it" a rubber tool handle coating...follow the directions and you will have a rubber non slip handle. comes in different colors so you can coordinate ha ha

Thanks Cotton--i'm quessing they do the old spray, dry and package with the handles.

Dave--coordinate? Colors? What's that mean? I hope you're not gonna tell me about that wearing stipes and plaids stuff and blues and greens and reds and yellows. Cause fashion never been my strong suit. In fact, sometimes, putting clothes on poses problems too! WOO-HOOOO!!!!!!! Besides, whoever heard of a coordinated carver? Have ya been reading about the--Whoops! OW!--mishaps? Damn--where's the bandaids! Excuse me....

Okay, now for my next question. I like the RG Flex-cut set-up, i.e the blade holder. As for the handle--ehhh--could be better. Not exactly suited for baseball mitt size hands.

Anyway, I think they threaded the device into the handle much like a lag bolt into wood. There's a "nut" machined into the shaft to allow this during assembly. Does anyone know for sure? The thought occurred to me to change the handle to one I'm changing all of my Ramelson palm tools. Otherwise, I might e-mail Flex-cut and ask them.

Thanks.
