Hey everyone, Do you know of any fast or express drying wood glues here in the states? I'm working with a South African contributer who uses Henkel Express glue, which takes a good hold in 10 minutes. She doesn't even need to clamp the stuff she works with...but the glue isn't available in the states. Is there anything close to that? Bob |

Bob - Henkel is a division of Loctite or Loctite is a division of Henkel, one way or the other, you might try Loctite to see what they have. Not having to clamp the work almost sounds like she's using an epoxy. I know Loctite has a fast setting wood glue, takes 10 or 15 minutes to set but ovenight to completely dry and I've always clamped it, but not being one who reads directions it may not be required.

I use Elmers carpenter glue and really dries to hold the object in a few minutes but takes overnight to completely dry...it is tough stuff, you will pull the wood apart before the glue breaks if you let it sit when first put on per directions...for a really fast set, I use cyanoacrylate and the fixative....works in seconds! one brand is Jet and can't think of the other, but there are lots of them....Woodcraft sells them and many other places

Bob, I've used the Gorilla Glue, which I know you folks advertise, with great success. The only drawback is if you get it on places that you don't want, like your fingers.

I like Gorilla Glue I would not necessarilly call it a fast drying glue though Every time I use it I clamp it Some always seeps out between the 2 pieces no matter whether I use a tiny bit or a lot I think it expands as it dries Once it dries and sets up the 2 pieces are bonded though Elmer's Probond Ultimate Glue is basically the same thing as Gorilla Glue can be purchased at Wal Mart and is cheaper

I like it It is about half the price of the Gorilla Glue I use it for gluing toppers on sticks I use a dowell and the probond ultimate glue and clamp usually over night cut off the excess where it seeped out I also found that if I take the bottle of glue and drop it down inside an emptied out jelly jar, it helps keep it sealed.

I use Pro-Bond too occasionally, you have to use a minimal amount because it does expand, for best results you should dampen (very slightly) one piece of wood, as the glue is activated by moisture...
