| | dockyard micro tools Hi, I have been doing a lot of little carvings, and am wondering if it is worth investing in the dockyard micro tools, or can one do the same thing with a knife and a bit of patience?
The tools seem like a good thing, but they are expensive, 54.95 for five at Mountain Woodcarvers. My guess is they last a lifetime (relative of course) but it seems like a whole bunch of money to lay out.
Any thoughts are welcome. |

| | Re: dockyard micro tools RickM, they are $39.99 at Little Shavers. I bought mine at a carving show for $31.00. Check around and you may find a bargain. They are worth the money and very sharp.

| | Re: dockyard micro tools Actually there are two sets available and I bought both (not to brag) they are worth every penny spent, I use them on every project be it large or small there's always a spot where they are needed.

| | Re: dockyard micro tools Cliff, I agree and also have both Dockyard sets too. When you get down to the final touches on faces and fine detail work the Dockyard gouges and v-tools make it easy to barely remove wood to get the right details without leaving fuzzies and rough edges. The Dockyard tools arrive sharp and are easy to touch up with light polishing and stropping.

| | Re: dockyard micro tools My Dockyard set was definitely worth the cost. I have the "Sculpter's Set" with three #9 gouges, a 90° V tool, and a small double bevel straight chisel. Like Norb says - they're great for faces and small detail work.
