Default when do you remove the burr

I usually use a coard dmt diamond stone to establish the edge on a dull tool.
A burr comes up pretty quickly.
Do you remove the burr befor going on to a finer stone or do you do it after?\
Best recommendation on removing the burr?

Buck, there are a couple different approaches to that burr removal. Personally, I'd leave it and go to a fine stone first. Or you can get rid of the burr by drawing the blade across a piece of wood in a slicing motion (not my recomendation) before going to the fine stone. After finishing the sharpening with a fine stone, go to a leather strop with a micro abrasive to get rid of the remaining burr.

Stropping does more than just removing the burr, it also polishes the cutting edge, and the smoother you get that, the easier your carving will be.

Stropping after using only a coarse stone will leave you with a long stropping proceedure to polish the edge, and first going to a fine stone wiill go a long way toward polishing that edge before stropping.

I agree with ALA. I use a coarse dimond hone to get some metal off and get the devel I want, then a medium, then a fine dimaond hone, then strop till I drop , And strop some more. I use White stonne on my power strop and yellow gold(Flexcut) on my hand strops with one with Jeweler's rouge. Mostlt the Flexcut yellow gold. I use The black stuff once in a while.
