Hi, I just listed an old Craftsman carving set on ebay with a $.99 opening bid, if anyone's interested. It's item #230087125983. They're rough, but Rick could fix them right up. I just didn't need them. I wouldn't have posted an ebay item on here that I was selling, but I thought someone here might benefit by them. Hope this doesn't offend anyone. If it does, feel free to ask BobD to remove it, it won't hurt my feelings a bit. ![]() Wade |

Don't offend me Wade. glad you did. If it offends someone, they can get glad in the same pants they got mad in, eh?

It's not generally a problem for members to post an occasional item for sale. Especially since you are not trying to make money, but are just trying to "unload" something that you don't use. Just don't use the site to market lots of tools (or other "stuff" for that matter). There's a guideline in the "Bill of Rights". How old are those tools? I wonder if they are a part of the "guaranteed forever" Craftsman policy, and if so how that would work. Not that it's really important to me, just seeing "Craftsman" made me think about it. If they are "really" old, they are probably ok...but I have a real problem with anything craftsman for a looong time! I mean since back in the late 70's!..hand tools, I didn't notice too much of a problem until about 10/15 years ago.

speaking of your listing on ebay.... how feasible would it be to have a swap n sell section on here for people to sell stuff they weren't using? To list it and then sell it or trade for something else? Good idea or bad? susieq |

Mitchell, I don't know their age for sure but on the paperwork there's an address with a zipcode...wasn't that begun in 1962? So no older than the '60's. Even if they had a lifetime sharpening guarantee I'd send them to Rick instead! He'd earn his $2 on them. I'm happy to say the present sharpening job is just like it was when I got the set used...I wasn't the one that mis-sharpened them! Honest! ![]() Wade |

Wade, They may have the Craftsman name on them, but they were made by Millers Falls. |

Mitch, I've had fair treatment from Sears with their Craftsman warranty. Couple small instances....their old utility knives had blades that would ONLY fit their handles and they quit marketing the blades. When I brought it in, they replaced the knife, no questions asked. No big deal, but nice, anyway. Then I had a torpedo level that lost fluid in one vial. All I wanted was to buy a new vial to replace it. The tool guy told me they couldn't get replacement vials any more and gave me a new level. I don't like the new one as well as the old one; it's plastic instead of aluminum alloy, but hey, it works just as well. Again no big item but still nice to deal with them. Al |

Rick, Hu! I did everything but mention your name in the listing, recommending they be sent to you for sharpening. If I'd have talked to you first I would have included a link to your site, if that's possible on ebay. Al, I've had good luck with Craftsman's older tools, but I've sure been disappointed in any I've bought there in the last few years since they merged with K-Mart...bad tablesaw, bad drill, bad bandsaw...time to change companies for me. The tablesaw I traded to an Amish neighbor who was going to take the motor off and add a gas engine to it. He said there was so much plastic inside that he wasn't sure he'd be able to do anything with it, but still trying to figure it out. It's 3 years or less old and the motor went out, and I've hardly used it. Wade |
