| | Re: chainsaw carving, where to buy Hi Mactruck,
They're a good sight. They don't have an electric chainsaw for sale though. I've got 2 gas saws but want an electric. I may buy a bar and chain from them for my gas smaller gas saw.
Thanks!

| | Re: chainsaw carving, where to buy Wade have you tried the Redmax saw? When I was in Ridgway PA for the Rendezvous in February I had the oppotunity to try the Redmax. It is strictley set us for a carving saw. It is very lightweight and carves like a dream. I only wish I had purchased one then because not I cant get it here in Canada. The saw sells for just over $400 US and it well worth the price. It is just like using a paint brush. The best electric they say for carving is the Makita in fact that is the only saw they all use for carving. I know Stihl makes an electric but it is quite expensive I think. No matter what electric you get you will have to change the sprocket to accomodate the 1/4 inch bar and chain. Having said that I know that Baileys make a 3/8 pitch carving bar 16 inch so you dont have to change the sprocket. Mind you it only comes with a quarter tip. For those of you that dont know carving bars come with dime and quarter tips meaning the end of the bar is the size of a dime or a quarter it makes it really good for detail carving.
For info on the Redmax you might try contacting this email he I think sells the Redmax or has all the info on it. nyaljr1@verizon.net

| | Re: chainsaw carving, where to buy Remington just sent me an electric chainsaw to review--I was impressed. I've got a jonsered gas chainsaw--but instead of firing that up this weekend to saw up a few branches, I just hooked up the remington--I was plesently surprised. I was cutting pine that was approx. 16" around--and the saw cut through it as well as my gas-powered saw!

| | Re: chainsaw carving, where to buy I have been using an electric around the house for years, much easier than messing with gas and oil etc....the problem with electrics is that they work you to death being so light, but I will always have one around....mine is a remington also. I loaned my neighbor my last one, it only lasted about twenty years LOL.....he felt bad about burning it up and bought me a new one.....he shouldn't have, but its nice to have conscientious neighbors! |

| | Re: chainsaw carving, where to buy I have two Remingtons with one on 12 foot extended pole for trimming branches. I agree with Dave, They will work you to death. I have a 43cc gas chain saw and it vibrates so much that the little electrics get used more. However, I wouldn't want to use the electric ones for very long for Chainsaw carving. |

| | Re: chainsaw carving, where to buy I have 2 Remington, one the smaller one, which is about 1 and 1/2 HP, I wore out, it was adequate for cutting 4" or smaller wood. I bought the 3 and 1/2 HP saw a couple of weeks ago and cut down a apple tree with it. It worked well and I had no problems with it. I'm not sure how it would do carving I want to experiment with chainsaw carving, so I might give it a try.

| | Re: chainsaw carving, where to buy A pple wood.....that sounds great. I hope you have stored the wood properly and sealed the ends for curing! A pple is a primier wood to use for fine carving...like on ship models! Hint, hint!!! Truly, it is a great close grained hard wood, that has some great character for carving.
