Default The Caterpillar Knife

Sometimes an idea comes together even better than one can imagine. Here's the latest knife to come out of my shop and she's a beauty. It's a scimitar blade mounted in what I affectionatly call a caterpillar-style handle since it resembles a segmented caterpillar. I glued up about 32 pieces of veneer with alternating colors to create the blank. I then shaped it into my standard "dolphin" shape and cut some grooves into it to produce the pattern that you see. It's actually very comfortable in the hand and no way is it going to slip out of a sweaty palm. Truly a stunning one-of-a-kind original. I am so pleased with it that I almost considered keeping this one for myself. I still might if it doesn't sell soon. I'd love to know what all of you think about this one.

Anyway, there are many more photos on the Knife Gallery page of my blog if you would like to stop in and have a closer look. The Old Stump: Knife Gallery

That is extra-dang-ordinary. What a remarkable idea that you have put into wood.

do you make your own blades or buy them? Just wondering, we use to have a supplier in the area that handled harden steel. but, he closed a few years ago.
