Merle your right, the higly polished finish helps to keep them from getting rusted or start to pit. I wouldn't use WD-40, it is stinky and makes everything orange, ya know it is made from little fish .

Well my Cape Forge Knife came yesterday and I absolutely love it.

Worked on my bear claw, it was really fun!
