| | Carving Knife! Hi,
I was wondering if there was a good pocket carving knife out there. I will be going camping every weekend in about 3 weeks and I want a knife with me. Along with the rest of my carving tools. Is there any brand of knife that is better than the rest??? Thanks

| | Re: Carving Knife! Well you can get a "Carvin' Jack" by flexcut or an "Oar Carver" I have both and like the Oar Carver a lot.....there are many many pocket knives out there, its just a matter of choice. Rick at Littleshavers has a modified Kershaw, I haven't tried it...... |

| | Re: Carving Knife! Hi Ho Sliver,
I looked at your website and you are very good. I had a oar Carvwer until yesterday. I did not care for it that much. I have my Dads case knife right now and it is great.
But then again it has been around for a lot time . My Dad has been carving fo9r about 35-40 years and does a great job. I need to get him on this forum to show off his carvings he has won awards and al that. I think that the carving Jack would be uncomfortable. Is it? I think it would be very bulky!
My Dad and I are in the midst of trying to start a inforformal carving club here in Ct. I do not know where it wil go but me and my Dad are having fun any way. for your reply! Oh getting back to the oar carver, I am doing a job in Waterbury, Ct and the man in charge is also a carver also and I showed him my knife and he liked it. I am now done with this job so I gave him the Knife as a going away present. Thanks again, This Forum is great! |

| | Re: Carving Knife! Personally like the little Case carvers, Just as good as the expensive name brands and if you lose i, NO CRYING! Of course I like the Bokers also. Never had one of themthere Oars but I could see it being worth having once you was up a creek without a paddle. |

| | Re: Carving Knife! I've said it before and I'll say it again....I did not like my Oar Carver, until I sent it to and got it back from Rick at Little Shavers. New bevel and sharpening made all the difference. However, that said, I am still looking forward to trying another pocket knife. I guess we are all lookin for that magic knife. Tom H |

| | Re: Carving Knife! I have the Kershaw knife that Rick of Little Shavers modified. I like it a lot and the modified blades that Rick did stand up to a lot of carving. One blade looks like the typical straight edge carving style blade and the other longer blade is round shaped on the end and sharpened so that it may be used as gouge. A good knife. |

| | Re: Carving Knife! Hi all;
Like everyone has said most of it is prefrance.I've got my dads old Case,an Unkle Henry and Sharade.All work fine for me.But I do prefer the carbon blade on the Case it holds an edge longer.I just found out about a knife suppler in Charlotte NC last weekend.They seem to have real good prices and you can buy from them direct.The site is WWW.cherokeeoutpost.com. The better half said she would get me the Boker 7474 for my bday.Can't wait only a few more weeks. Just remember if it don't feel good in your hand all it will do is collect dust. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
