Blood Sacrifice - A better glove needed

Try Page 5

This thread covers the subject of gloves pretty good.

I use the typical reinforced Stainless wire within Kevlar glove that WoodcraftShop sells. The more expensive one. Not complaints............yet.

What I have used flawlessly is the combination of a "Kevlar" (or some other type of "cut resistant") carving glove double-gloved under an inexpensive hardware store, leather work-glove on my holding hand. I also sometimes keep a thumb guard on my knife-holding hand.

The double gloving, I think, is the key to absolutely keeping the holding hand safe from any major accidents.

Been there, done that.

Schooner... Your best bet is just to type in carving gloves or safety gloves in the "search" box and be ready to do some "super dooper" reading! There's been a lot of discussion of late and a lot of opinions. It's a buyer beware market out there and it basically boils down to "carver's choice!"

I hear ya,

New Pfeil toolset arrived today, thought I would quickling test a end on a piece of scrap wood before I went out and boom, a bent gouge strait into lower part of my thumb. Luckily didnt hit anything important, and was just stiched up. I have some leather gloves at the moment but after panicing so much this time im looking for some quality gloves.

on the thread linked previosly the HexArmor 9004 gloves look good, I just hope they do these in a size that will fit my very small hands (almost child size =( )

I think I need to start using a carving glove also.I have avoided using one for a number of reasons like being stubborn and too cheap to put the cash out for one. This past weekend I cut myself twice in about 10 mins. It just seems no matter how carefull you are Its bound to happen sooner or later.

I wonder how they are in regards to grip like holding your piece

If you want the ULTIMATE protection, don't mess with those flimsy carving gloves! Check thse out......just do a search for "butcher's gloves" or "meat cutter's gloves". They are stainless steel chain mesh, some with a lighter Kevlar layer for comfort. If you cut yourself while wearing one of these, you've really been trying.

Kinda pricey but if you are really worried....and you'll never have to replace or repair it.

I'm cheap so I've been using plan mechanic gloves, the fabric with rubber palm and fingers. Is very good for holding the piece and so far has slowed that sharp blade down enough so it's just a little cut, been lucky lately.

There is no perfect carving glove. Any of them can be stabbed/sliced through. Get one you are comfortable with and MAINTAIN SAFE CARVING PROCEDURES. Think, pay attention, and if you feel you are going to cut yourself, you proably are, so do it differently.
