Default Cape Forge Knives

Hello all,
I'm looking to buy another carving knife. I was looking at a brand called cape forge. Has anyone had experience with this brand? Better yet, is there a better knife to be had? I don't mind spending extra for better quality.

Thanks,
Dan

I've got 1 Cape Forge knife, and have thought of buying another. Great knife for removing big chunks of wood. Blade is a little thick compared to other knives. Handles are a little different and may take some getting use to. Hold an edge real well. Company is a father/daughter team in Maine. I think they know what they're doing, JMHO. Don't know what you want to do with the knife, for detail I like Lyons, for general carving, I usually have a Helvie or Denny in my hand. I probably wouldn't replace my Helvies, to me they've become too expensive and you can get knives of equal value, for less money. Again, JMHO.

I was talking to a vender about them and he said that they get a lot of call backs. I'VE seen some really nice knives at Deep woods. but if your just starting denny or flexcut for the price are prety good knives. Feb

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

Feb, what kind of call backs did the vendor mention? Just wondering before I order another one. Have no complaints about my first one.

Thanks for the information. I have a Helvie for general carving and I own a lyons detail knife. I just need a curved blade and I want one that will really hold and edge. Are the Denny knives good for this?

I have a cape forge knife, its a thicker blade and good for harder woods, but I do 99% of my carving on basswood and butternut..so the knife just sits there! I really like my straight razor conversions, Helvie, and Woody knives, I also use my flexcut quite a bit...I have a denny and its a pretty good little detail knife, but also just a tad thicker blade than my Helvie or Woody...but knives are like automobiles......everyone has a favorite! lol

If this is a contest of who has the mostest so far I win. I have 8 cape forge knives had good luck with all but one....it was a very small detail knife with a very thin blade ,,,I don't know if the temper was wrong or what, but could not stop the blade point from braking off. brought another just like it no problems. because of the good steel they use in making the knives they stay sharp a long time. I also have a knife that little shavers made for me, really good knives,...... but he ( rick from Seattle ) does not make many knives any more .but he will after he retires in 1 1/2years ......+ or - a few days.......from his day job...lol
thats about 2 cents worth.lol

I like my Cape Forge knives. I have four of them. I understand comments about the blades being thick...but I still find them super knives.
.
I broke the tip off from one of them and they repaired it and returned it to me all at no-charge. I have since learned how to NOT break the tip on very sharp blades! ;-)

I also have Dennys, Helvies, Flexcuts, a Two Cherries (that I really like but the handle has come loose...gotta fix that!), and a couple of other custom knives.

I have a Deep Woods long detailer that I'm still trying to get sharp and some Warren blades that I keep working on to sharpen, too.

The Helvies and Cape Forges are my favorites.

RussL.

I have 5 Cape Forge knives and they are fine tools. Many of you know I am also a hobby blacksmith and I like the idea of a forged blade. You will not be disappointed with them. It is true they are a bit thicker than Helvie and Lyons but if you keep them stropped, they cut hard or soft wood just fine.
