Default "Can-Opener" Knife Sharpener?

In my annual first of the year clean-up/organization attempt, I came across this old Sears can opener that went down in the basement years ago. On the backside it has a sharpener attachment for your household sissors, kitchens knifes, etc.. However, when I removed the plastic casing, we have a small wheel grind stone attachment.

Any thoughts on this being used to sharpen / hone some carving tools?

Coffeeman, Haven't seen one of them in years,Lol. Bet it would be handy for lot's of things. Maybe you want to sharpen a piece of wire or just take a small burr off of something. Don't really know how it would work for tools but it just may be great!, Mike

By the looks of the casing covering the knife sharpener, it looks to be about the right degree. Go for it CM! Then strop it. But use different knife than what you carve with to test.Smile

I have 1 of those grinding wheels on the shaft
mixed in with some of my drill stuff
I have used it in the past to sharpen lawnmower blades
had it for so long that I could not remember where it came from

If you have a tool that is variable speed it should do a good job

coincidently with your post our can opener gave up the ghost and the old was left on may work bench to be thrown in the garbage. but i notice the sharpining wheel, but have not used it yet other than sharping a garden knife.

like you i'll have to experiment with it.

Don't test it on a good blade. Power grinding equipment will burn it very quickly. If it turns blue, you have ruined the blade. Hand power on a good soft Arkansas stone followed by a good stropping is still the way I prefer to sharpen any of my tools. I am in no hurry to ruin an expensive tool....
