Default Burke sharpener

I have a Burke sharpener and just ran out of sandpaper for the wheel, anyone know what kind of paper I should get for sharpening knives? it had 180 grit and I am upping that to 320 because of a fine stone wet grinder I have is pretty close to 180...but not sure what kind of paper? crocus cloth..does it come in 1 1/2 by ? rolls?

Hi Ho,
I have a roll of emory cloth that I keep for my Burke Sharpener..have it in two different grits. I spray the wheel first, then the emory cloth strip--then when it's tacky, put it on the wheel. I cut it at an angle and put a couple of rubber bands around it to hold it in place until it "sets." I actually use the finer grit mostly--and mostly use the strop--unless I've got a nick in my blade.

thanks Donna, where did you get the emory cloth? and what grit did you end up with? 320? I do the same using spray adhesive, I haven't been cutting at an angle, maybe I should? I bought the Burke "travel" sharpener and now wish I had gotten the full size one! I also see they don't carry this smaller version now..

Hi ho you should be able to get emory cloth where plumbing supplies are sold. It is used to clean copper pipe before soldering. Hope this helps.
