| | Re: buck bros The old Buck Brothers from 20 years back and beyond were great......the new ones seem to be sharpened more for wood turning than carving. If you can find someone to cut those steep bevels back you will probably be satified with them.

| | Re: buck bros Not necessarily... Since you broached the subject I assume that you know little or nothing about sharpening. In that case I'd contact Little Shavers Wood Carving Supply or Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers ( Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers). Give them a jingle or send an email and tell them what you've got. Both have sharpening services or they did. They're good people and will do a good job. Since you've already got the tools and you
are just learning you might as well take advantage of them.

| | Re: buck bros It is not economical to sharpen the Buck Bros. (Great Neck) 6-piece carving set.
The price of the set ranges from $12.99 to $49.99.
Add $12.00 for regrinding, and $12.00 for sharpening and you have easily spent $45.00 for a marginally useful set of tools.
The Buck Brothers tools we (old timers) remember were made between 1875 and 1948.
In 1951, Great Neck bought the Buck Bros good name to apply to their inferior quality wood carving set. They have taken advantage of inexperienced wood carvers for 57 years.
Their plastic-handled carving set was my first "real" wood carving set; that was a long time ago and the tools have not improved one bit.
My advice is to return the tools whenever possible. |

| | Re: buck bros I bought a old set of Buck Brother chisels and gouges off of ebay some years ago. The one I got were very old large mallet set and they are made of good metal. I found a set of Buck Bro tools 6 in the set that look like they were made on a screwdriver handle. They are cheep. I would think a old set of good Buck Bro. would be hard to come by. The old ones are good. ![003[1]](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/003[1].gif) Kcubal | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
