Default Broad hatchet

I found a "broad hatchet" at a flea market for $8.00 like the ones WoodCraft sells for around $50.00. It has a rather nasty chip almost dead center! I would probably re-shape the edge any way. I have a lay down type water wheel and a regular bench grinder. As long as I don't get it too hot or take off too much metal it should be ok for roughing out patterns?
Any experience with the side ways wheels? It worked great on some old & cheap gouges & chisels I had.

Jerry, that should work, but there is a "correct" way to remove a chip from an axe. Instead of trying to resharpen the whole blade to remove the chip, first grind the entire edge edge of the blade flat to the depth of the chip, then resharpen the whole thing. Believe it or not, you will actually remove less of the blade this way and have a better bevel all the way across.
