Default Belt Sander Bargain

I've been wanting to make "razor knives" after Rick's article for some time now. I finally saved up enough money to buy a belt sander/grinder-disc sander. I found this great web special for the Jet Multitool with a 6" grinder. You get the the 6" Multitool for $219.95 and they include a 6" Jet grinder for no cost. I'm sure it's all the grinder I'll need for some time to come as I'm only going to make a few knives at a time in the beginning. The only concern I have is being able to find straight razors in good supply. Does anybody have any suggestions for finding razors.

Thanks in advance,
Jon Harl

Little Shavers has a great article on how to make a razor knife from start to finish.

Couple of good looking grinders there Rick! Naturally I like the most expensive one the best lol........the first would be good with the 220 grit belt and a paper wheel on the other side, and maybe the same with the second...or perhaps a hard felt wheel on the left side on the second one? imho. As for razors, you can find them on ebay and they still make them, you can buy new ones, do a google search, lots of razors around, I think most men had several so they wouldn't have to stop and sharpen or hone every morning, in fact I have seen sets of 7 where they had one for each day of the week. try antique stores, estate sales, garage sales etc etc.

I can't seem to figure out how to post a hyperlink so the web site for the mulititool is. www.vansantent.com click on grinding & sanding and then click on the Mulititool for $219.95. Although Rick's Grizzly is less expensive at $79.00.

Jon,
I am not sure you can do "Slack belt" work on the $79.00 Grizzly.

Rick,
Do you mainly do slack belt work on the handle? I can see where the Grizzly wouldn't allow that. On the Multitool you can change the position of the belt from horizontal to vertical. I believe this would be easier to flat and slack grind.

Jon,
You realize the multi-tool is just that, no grinder motor included for $219.
It is $369. with the grinder; but if you have a grinder all you need is the multi-tool.

Rick, That's the "Belt Sander Bargain" I was talking about. Van Sant Enterprises is selling the the Multitool which retails for $219.95 for $219.95 WITH a 6"-1/2 hp Jet Grinder pre-assembled. This is a web special only and the regular price is $299.95 for the 6"-1/2 hp Jet Grinder with the Multitool and $369.95 for the 8"-1 hp Jet Grinder with Multitool. Bruce at Van Sant told me this was good for only the current stock of 6" Jet Grinders on hand. He said they had a bunch but they are very popular.

www.vansantent.com

Click on "Grinding and Sanding" then on the Multitool for $219.95.
Hope this helps.
Jon
