I have several large fish to do in Oak for a boat house. Wood is 2.5 inches thick.. Largest fish is 66 inches, shortest about forty...I have a 4 tooth skip tooth blade...Does Oak tear up blades, and is my choice of blades right for the cutting.??? If I should be using something else, what, and where do I buy one?? Blade is 132.5 inches long.. Thank you for your help, cordially Nad

That sounds like it would work fine. I am fond of the Timberwolf brand of blades...they seem to cut very well.

Take a snoop in woodworkforums.com, in the Bandsawn Boxes section. Those guys are ripping through 6-8 inches of hardwood without blinking.

Nad: My little 9 inch Craftsman bandsaw will saw 3.5 inches of oak, walnut (both of which I've actually done) using a 3/16 inch 4 TPI skip tooth Timberwolf. No problem! Feed rate is not as fast as with 1 inch basswood, obviously, but I wouldn't hesitate to cut the sizes you're discussing. Actually, I think the feed rate is more a function of horsepower (lack thereof) than the blade... Claude |

Claude, and all. Comments right on the nail...Had a local wood worker say he thought there would be probems with the white Oak..The blade on my saw is so dull, I can't make a line cut in a stick of butter. Decided to waste the Oak, and the blade came alive..With the nice abnormally warm weather here in Ohio, I'll have the Commission done in two days.....40's and 50's beat standing on 10 degree cement... Looks like I will be able to save the new blade for several more yards of cutting. Thanks again...
