| | Arbortec mini grinder Decided to purchase one. I use a cutter much like the Big Arbortec in my angle grinder, and it is smooth enough that a dab of hot melt and I can trim shore birds...Am expecting a new cutter for the mini grinder with replacable carbide chisel tips. These should vastly increase the cutting ability, and control ..So, has anyone used one of these toys? What do you like or dislike about them, and any suggestions where to buy the attachment kit? Since I have a Vortex slapped on an angle grinder and use it virtually every day,, it might be best to pick up another angle grinder as well...When you say , Let's build a new cutter for that dude, you aren't thinking that you are going to have to buy a grinder to try it out in....Very interesting how not thinking can add up in dollars and nonsense,,,,,,,,,,,cordially NAD |

How do you like the mini grinder? I've got the full size one hooked up on my grinder now, and have the mini-one ready to hook up...but haven't yet.

I've had an Arbortec mini for a few years and while I like it, it definetly is for out door use.
My work shop is in my basement, and I bought the mini grinder to use for carving large projects like the chain saw guys do. The first time I tried it out down stairs, I had chips everywhere.....so much so that I suspect that one day I will find more that I failed to clean up from the first time I used it.
I do agree that the carbide tipped cutters will probably give better control, but the control with the regular tips is NOT hard to handle....

| | Re: Arbortec mini grinder I bought one when it came time to carve a lifesize golden eagle. One word of caution, where eye protection. The first time I stoked that thing up it was like a wild animal!! Scarred the crap out of me!!!! Wore gloves and a apron as well as a full face shield. It is a great tool for large projects, and takes wood off extremely fast. Take you time!!!! |

| | Re: Arbortec mini grinder This cutter has teeth like the 4 1/2 inch grinder that can be rotated to keep exposing a sharp cutting edge...The character who made the two cutters( his and mine) says this is superior to anything Arbortec has slapped on an angle grinder.. He does about a thousand bowls a year, so we are talking serious comparison..Design stolden from Rod Naylors Tungsten Carbide Tornado..I found out,(now that I have the adaptor kit), my Makita does not work. and I have to buy another..Have a list of angle grinders that the adaptor kit says will work, can post here or you can float me an E Mail..Right now, two cutting heads exist, five are being made..I think Naylor gets onr, another to the Yukon, me, one to a maniacial gal in Oz, and a spare...And I hate to tell you this, before gas, milage etc, each one is costing me $106.00 RTG, and that is about break the bank time...Forgot the darn angle grinder to buy...might have to get a tin cup and pencils..let you know when I get it going and how it compares, going to get one of the Arbortec carbide cutters because, that is the present ,available, state of the art.. Kids, off to sell something, have a good day...maybe I'll float an E Mail to Arbortec, and sell them the last one..Disclaimer, I have no intention of selling these items, if Naylor does. that's fine.Having learned I may be world's worst businessman, am sticking with carving, my little kits ,and my mission in life, THE TOTAL destruction of wood, by any means both fair and foul..., cordially NAD | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
