Default Anyone made homemade Woodburning pens for Fish Scales

I am considering making some scale burners for fish carving and was wondering if anyone had ever tried making one. the design comes from www.fishcarver.com and Ed Walicki. I located Phenalic Tubes but was wondering about the Hollow Copper reciever tubes..

Bigredcarver-i remember reading an article on the net on how to make your on burner pens. i believe that the author suggested that the hollow copper tubes were available from radio shack and even gave a part no.

may have been the same site you are refering to

Frank

ps. if i ever find the article i'll let you know.

jamesfa,

Thanks for the reply! I checked out the Radio Shack part. he gives instruction on seperating the tubes from the plastic...however there is a "copper reciever tube" you are supposed to solder on the wire then this tube goes into the radio shack part..(At least thats how I understand it...)

I was curious about a source for the little tubes.

Check at a model airplane or railroad shop. They usually stock brass, copper and aluminum sheets, tubes, square tubing, rods, wires, and other profiles for model making.

I make my fish scale burning tips from brass rods of varying diameters, but for the hobby style pens with 10-24 std threads.
