| | And Not For The Flexcut Users Please refer to the below post, I have the sk series set, 16pc, got for a great price locally, not sold on them, storage is a problem and space, don't get to carve alot at home, but mostly at club meetings where space is a problem, large group, little room, un-rollling a tool roll isn't really easily done....how do you all keep, store and use the sk tools?.....I thought maybe I could get another handle or two, that would resolve keeping a roll open, just a few tools at a time, but do you have any storage idea's for me?....still new and working out the kinks.....the set is nice, just switching tools and storage are my concern.....the tools recommended in a previous post was for the Denny 1/2 3,5,7,9 and a 4mm 11 and 5/8 'v" tool, ......the sk set doesn't have that large of a size except maybe a 1/2 #3......sure a lot of it is a matter of getting used to and using what you have.....maybe some of you flexcut users can add words of wisdom.....almost all the people who attended the local Dayton show, didn't use flexcut, sure they are making a $$$$ from there carvers and I am only carving for fun, so maybe that is the difference....the tools seem good, any input is also appreciated....tks...Dennis

| | Re: And Not For The Flexcut Users Dennis I wish I could add some wisdom but I cant. I agree the flexcut tool roll is a pain. I have all the SK profiles in fact I have two rolls. My problem with them is that they fall out of the rolls really easy and I am always damaging them or worse losing them. I am thinking I am going to see if the good woman can sew a flap over the tools to stop them from doing this. I also will be really interested to hear if other people have any ideas.

| | Re: And Not For The Flexcut Users Dennis, when you buy tools made by Denny,Pfeil,Stubai and Drakeknives you are spending a little more money for a lifetime investment in the best tools a woodcarver could ever want. I have a set of Flexcut that are in the box on a shelf and that's where they will stay.

| | Re: And Not For The Flexcut Users I have a tool roll for my knives and I had my wife sew in a square of felt on the outter edge , top and bottom, with those flaps folded over, when the tools are rolled up, nothing falls out! I also have some flexcut blades that I bought originally for my Ryobi carver.....I still have the Ryobi tho I seldom use it, if it ever goes bad, I will just make handles for the blades.....imho |

| | Re: And Not For The Flexcut Users I have some Flexcut RG tools--which I like, and the handle--not so hot. I originally wanted a set of tools that I could roll up and carry, but putting the tools in and out of the handle wasn't working out. So I began making handles on the tools that I used the most. I use epoxy and put brass washers as "ferrules" on the handles before inserting the tools. Now, I'll have tools for minimal mallet use also--sort of like the Power carver tools that Flexcut offers.
To keep the tools from falling out of the roll, I left the tool in the plastic sleeve they came in from Flexcut, and just folded over a side so I could slide the tool and sleeve into the slot on the roll. It can be a pain sometimes but that's better then the tools falling out. (Another reason to put handles on the tools!)

| | Re: And Not For The Flexcut Users Dennis,
What I have found out is.......you don't carve with all your tools.....so I don't take them all with me.....I went down to wall mart and got a tackle box...place my carving glove on the bottom .....for a cushion, take only the knives I think I will be using. problem solved....lol ...Jim |

| | Re: And Not For The Flexcut Users Hi Dennis
One of the guys at my local carving club has put plastic tubing over the business end of the tools to protect the edges. He hauls all his gloves, knives, etc, in a small plastic tool box he got at Sears. I normally only work with one or two at a time snd thats all I take with me. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
