Default Advice Please

In the current WCI, Page 40 is the plans for a Carver's Lapboard. There is a curved piece made out of 16 "keystone" pieces. The author says to glue and clamp the 16 pieces. How the heck do you clamp something like that?

An alternative is to make it from a single piece. Fit using a piece of card stock, cut to size. Soak the wood in warm water for a while and bend it into place, dry it off some and glue it, drill and add a few brads/small nails of you like to hold it in place. Check out my link below and you'll see the one I made. It works well.

Why not cut the piece in the semi circle. Draw it out on a piece of 1 by 2 in an arch and then cut it on a scroll saw. simple asThat

An old carving friend who is now deceased made my lapboard for me. Never content with anything the way it comes, I had to tinker with it to make it work even better for me. I cut off the top part of an oversized bib apron and sewed a strip of velcro along the bottom, and glued the matching stip of velcro along the inside of the lap box. Now when I sit down in my recliner with the lapbox, I spread the side flaps of the apron over the arms of the chair, flip the neckband around my neck, and start carving. Fewer chips get in my chair--none get in my lap and when I'm finished for the night, I tuck both side flaps on top of the lapboard, slip off the neck band and pile on top, too, and I walk out on the deck and dump the wood chips over the edge.
