Default Re: 24 degree V tool

I have one of the original Berold TIGHT v-tools but couldn't tell you the degree. I don't use it very often, but when I do, it's just simply the only tool that will work. Sharpening such a tight "v" is tough--I usually send it to Rick in Seattle or Dick Belcher in Ohio to clean up--I have enough trouble doing big v-tools!

Susieq, several years ago, when I was wanting to go from all palm tools to slightly longer ones (like the Intermediate length or full sized) a friend and I turned a bunch of 3-4" long walnut handles and we popped off the knobby handles on most of my Harman/Ramelson palm tools and replaced them with the new, sleek, long ones. We put the shafts in a vise, tapped off the old handles, used 5 minute epoxy to set the new handles and we were back in business. I was able to add 3-4" to the reach of the new tools.

I see that several carving catalogues even offer replacement handles now, but being the do-it-yourselfers of a decade ago, it worked for us. Just an idea if you're adventuresome!
