I was given some good advice and thought I would pass it on. The leather belt on my upside down belt sander (which is only 4 months old) got so stretched out that even with the tension turned all the way, the belt still flaps when running. A friend of mine suggested lightly spraying the belt with water will shrink it, then when the machine is not in use loosen the tension. I did this a week or so ago and it seems to help. BTW when the belt is tight it works great ! Dave Last edited by Gulf Coast Handyman; 06-08-2009 at 07:53 PM. |

Sounds very much like the recommended procedure for bandsaws: remove tension when not in use. Thanks, Dave - I probably wouldn't have thought to remove tension on a belt sander with a leather belt, but now that you mention it, it makes sense! Claude |

I just got a 30" belt sander and will be keeping the sander belt on it. Is it also recomended to releive tension on those or just the leather?

Sorry Tom I am not sure, maybe one of the others might know. I also have an older Delta 1x30, I use this one only for sanding, I never loosen the tension and never had a problem ?? Dave Last edited by Gulf Coast Handyman; 06-08-2009 at 07:52 PM. |
