Default woodcraft folding knife

I've been looking for a new chip carving knife. I found one knife at woodcraft. It's a folding knife and it also has a detail knife with it too. It's $20 and there is no brand name on it. Is it worth buying?

In general, carvers are cautious about folding knives if they are doing cutting motions that might cause the blade to suddenly fold, resulting in injuries. If the knife has some form of lock on the open blade, that might not happen. The other considerations are: Is it comfortable to hold and use for extended periods of time? Does the steel used for the blade(s) sharpen well and hold an edge? The latter questions can only be answered by your own use.

Thanks Phil. I guess I can look at some reviews for the knife to see what people who have used it say.

I've got one of those little knives and its not bad as long as you realize it can snap shut on you and are carefull. I take it with me when I go somewhere and taking the whole kit isnt practicle. I can just drop it into my pocket and away I go, (as long as I stay away from security areas.)
The knife holds an edge fairly well and comes with a chip carving blade and a detail blade.
It's not as comfortable to hold over a long time as a fixed blade carving knife, but for what I use it for its alright.

Hope this helps

Jim

I have one and in my opinion don't waste your money. It's good for opening boxes and that's about it.

I also have one, I have to agree with Paul (TreeWizard). Plus the handle is not very comfortable.
