Default Wildlife Designs by Sue Walters

I am submitting a book review here, one that is close to my heart because the book is so perfect for us relief carvers.

My copy of Sue Walters' new book, Wildlife Designs - Original Patterns for Your Favorite Craft, arrived in the mail yesterday. It's great! It's a Must-Have!

I expect many of you know Sue as a pyrographer with her goreous wood burnings but I wanted to make note of her and this new book to my fellow relief carvers. Sue's book has thirty large detailed patterns that are just perfect for relief work. And .... AND! ... every pattern has a detailed pencil drawing that goes with it to show you the depth, layers and round over work.

Plus she has captured all of the best North American animals including wolves, mallard ducks, eagles ... there's a pair of playful chipmunks and even a thick coated puma on a rocky clift. Wait till ya see the little coon peeking out between the v-split tree trunks. If you love wildlife carving I know you are going to a huge number of ideas here.

OK, my favorite, there's a Bighorn Sheep portrait drawing that is absolutely frameable art in the book. Good enough that I wish I had drawn it

Sue Walters, great work and thanks for creating something for us relief carvers. A real 'must have' for any carvers library.

Susan

Susan, thanks for taking the time to review this book and tell us about it. I've followed some of your messages, and it sounds like you're very busy with your own writing, designing and carving. I bought your (and Chris Pye's) latest book on greenmen and showed it to my carving group. What a great resource! Keep up the good work. Mike

Hey Mike ... You're right!

The manuscript got mailed on Wednesday with all of the text and patterns. So I am grabbing a day or two of air before I go to work on all of the finished samples that will be needed. Four months of work all bundled up in a 12" x 12" by 3" package.

I'm right at that awful moment when I am the most cranky, nasty, mean, grumpy and mumbling under my breathe about why I do this to myself. A bad case of P.M.S. - Manuscript Shivers. Almost close enough to see the end but not there yet.

In a couple of weeks, The good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'll be worrying the good people at Fox about what's next to do

But ... having a day or two before I have the 'go ahead' on the finished work ideas I, of course, hustled my bunnies right over here to the forum to see what's been happening while I've been gone. I'm gonna enjoy the great reading here as a fun break from work.

Sue's book will blow you away when you see it and it is worth sharing.

Susan

Susan,
I hope you take a week off before getting totally consumed in the next serious project! We've missed you so much, you're inspiration and insight and encouragement! Sslloowww dddooowwwwnnnnn for a week or two! Spend a little time relaxing, spend a little time carving, dreaming, and a little time straitening out those of us who say, "how can I do it better".
Believe me, we've missed you!
Wade

Hey Bob, I saw your article in WCI and I must say I am proud to know you! Great work.

Wade, Carving ???? What's that ???? The only thing that my bench knife has been used for the last four months is to sharpen pencils, slice paper and cut the dirty ends off of white erasers .... If I slow down at this point I'll crash. But at least the work that is left to be done is the fun stuff

Kathy, thanks!!!!
