I'm trying to find a source, free or otherwise, for wedding plate chip carving patterns and/or other large round chip carving patterns. I already have Susan Irish's two chip carving books from Chipping Away, their Chip Carver's Workbook, Wayne Barton's first book, Pam Gresham's Basic Chip Carving and Ivan H. Crowell's Chip Carving Patterns and Designs. I have another 12" plate I'm looking to do, but lack a design. While I have embellished the pattern in Pam Gresham's book I am not ready to strike off solo on a large pattern of totally original design. Any suggestions for large round chip carving patterns anyone? TIA, Russ |

Russ , WCI had a Chip Carved Wedding plate pattern in WCI 2006 #36, page 64, by Barry MacKenzie. Also do a search on Wedding plate here on the Forum , there are a few chip carved wedding plates shown in various threads that might be helpful to you. Cheers OG |

Thanks O_G. I do believe that I have the issue! I have looked though both the posts and the Galleries...you're right! There are a few worth looking at, for sure. Thanks for your response. I appreciate the information. All the best, Russ |

I would recommend combining the chip carved plate designs of Wayne Barton with the monograms he used on other pieces. I made one for my brother and he was most pleased. See the galleries.

Russ, I am also planning to doa plate for my nephews wedding next June. I went to the library this past Sunday, and found a perfect pattern in Wayne Bartons Design and Pattern book. 2 doves facing each other with their beeks touching in a kiss. Their feathers form a heart above them. I'm going to se this as the center of the plate, letterign on th top and bottom, and as little flourish in between. Good Luck, Dan

I applied sanding sealer to the plate and then sprayed the plate with satin finish poly.
