Pallin I don't know if I said this right , I have used oils on my carvings to bring out the grain and then I used waterborne poly over it so it would not yellow the wood, that is what I meant.

Hi, looks great! The trouble with relief landscapes is, of course, perspective: the viewing angle can easily distort it some. In your piece it seems to work well. I haven't thought of this since I haven't planned on making relief landscapes - but would one way be to exaggerate the perspective a bit, like using a 35mm or 28mm objective?

What a challenging piece you have taken on. It has so much to look at, and the detail is amazing. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Great looking piece, Phil. Which part did you find to be the most difficult?

K.Karver:
Sorry to be slow to respond. I've been traveling.
The most difficult part of this piece is where the water channel turns back on itself. The lower channel should appear to be in front of the channel above which flows to the same support columns. This design consists of two "Penrose triangles," which are impossible figures. To see more of these, I suggest you explore Impossible world: Contents From the home page, click on the Figure library and look at those in the Grey Scale.

Thanks for the web site, Phil. Those are a lot of fun. Be interesting to get a group together for an afternoon and see how many could be carved.

Hope the travels were enjoyable. I am off to Peoria IL tomorrow to pick up my son. He just completed his second tour in Iraq. Haven't seen him in 8 months.

Blessings,

John K Karver
