This question is more for relief and sign carvers. I am planning on doing a relief carving and I want to put some text over an arc. I have Word 2002 and I don't think I can do it very good other than with WordArt in Word 2002. WordArt just does not seem very efficient. I just am wondering what is a good basic program to have to be able to create text on an arc? Or if you can tell me if Word 2002 can do it or not. Thanks,

Don't know about WORD . I use Corel Draw. It has a feature to attach text to a curve. Only problem I have is that it goes to the top of the arc or in the case of a circle to the outside This is not good for chip carved plates because the bottom most word will be upside down. I have to creat an arc bigger than the circle and attach my bottom word and then piece it together for my pattern.

I frequently use word art to design lettering---on a curve, arc, wave, etc. I use Arial Bold for a clean block letter. You can change the size of the arc to fit your project. I don't know about word 2002, but I do use it in Office XP so it may be a later version.

I have used word art. And it will work with only a few minor adjustments.

Most Arc's are not true circles. They are usally some type of elipse . Were the circle was drawn and then tangets attached. When using word art the first and last letters will be distored.

The easy way to get the correction is on Susans site where she describes the seperation of an Arch inot balanced sections.

What word art will do is it will angle your letters, so you can cut and paste them into the proper location. To look correct you can then look at the lettering to insure it is what your looking for. Just consider it as a bit more layout work needed.

Do not use striaght letters as the base of the letters will not follow the arch if you do and a simple misplacement will loook major when your finished.

Sorry, but I'm not much of a help, I've always done mine by hand. Typed out the letters, printed and then cut them out and positioned them by hand on a reference line drawn on. Good luck with it.
